Thai Basil Review | Bangalore’s Best Authentic Thai Restaurant

Jayanth Dev at Thai Basil, Bangalore

Thai Basil, with two locations in Bangalore, stands as a beacon of authentic Thai cuisine, promising a mesmerizing journey for your taste buds through the vibrant flavours of Thailand. This establishment deserves special mention among Thai food aficionados, as my recent dining experience was not only impressive but also thoroughly satisfying. The restaurant’s ambience, drawing inspiration from Thai design, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Traditional Thai art, wooden accents, and subdued lighting blend seamlessly to craft an atmosphere that is both cosy and elegant, catering to couples and families alike. Now, let’s delve into the culinary adventure with the following review.

Thai Basil Review:

The true prowess of Thai Basil shines through in its cuisine. The menu is a treasure trove of classic Thai dishes, each authentically capturing the essence of Thai flavours. Our culinary journey began with Chicken Satay and the iconic Thai salad, Som Tam (Papaya Salad). While the papaya salad, though lacking the customary fiery bird-eye chilli, still pleased my palate, the Chicken Satay fell short of expectations. The overpowering sweetness and fish sauce overshadowed the classic tastes of soy, lime, and ginger, leaving a lingering, unpleasant aroma of fish sauce. However, the disappointment with the starters took a turn with the Khao Pad Nam Prik Pao (Tofu fried rice with Black chilli paste). This dish presented a revelation, showcasing a harmonious blend of textures and flavours, with perfectly cooked rice. Although on the sweeter side, it was a bit of a letdown for those expecting a Thai spice kick.

Regrettably, my go-to dessert, Khao Neow Mamuang (Mango Sticky Rice), was unavailable. However, the attentive waitress, well-versed in the menu, recommended Peak Poon (Pandan Pudding with coconut milk). This choice not only spared me disappointment but also showcased the restaurant’s commitment to preserving the authentic flavours of traditional Thai desserts.

While Thai Basil leans towards the pricier side, the quality of the cuisine justifies the cost. Generous serving sizes ensure that you receive more than your money’s worth, making the dining experience at Thai Basil a worthwhile culinary investment.
