The district of Chikkaballapura is located in Karnataka, India. Previously part of the Kolar district, Gauribidanur, Gudibanda, Bagepalli, Chikballapur, Manchenahalli, Sidlaghatta, and Chintamani were transferred to the new district on August 23, 2007, making it Karnataka’s fourth largest district (before bifurcation). The majority of the population speaks Kannada, the national language.

Chikballapur is the district headquarters and an important transportation hub for the northern part of Bangalore. Highway 69, which runs east to west, and National Highway 44, which runs north to south, both pass through the area. One can take the train from Bangalore to Chikballapur to the north, Doddaganjur to the east, Srinivaspur to the south, and Kolar to the south.

Nandi village, at the foot of Nandi Hills (or Nandidurga), in the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka state, India, is home to the Hindu temple known as Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple (also spelt “Bhoga Nandishwara” or “Bhoga Nandishvara”). In the Hindu religion, Shiva is revered as a supreme deity.
